Golf Green Reading Tools: Enhance Your Game with BreakMaster

BreakMaster launch monitors and score cards for golf practice.

The Perfect Gift for Any Golfer

What to give a golfer this Christmas? A gift that addresses a major challenge in golf—missing putts on the green. It's tough to rely solely on eyesight to determine how gravity (the break) influences the roll of the ball, which is why many amateur golfers struggle with golf putts improvement and see their scores rise. So, what should you give a golfer to tackle this issue? Consider the BreakMaster golf device, a precision tool designed to enhance putts and lower scores by assisting golfers in effective green charting.

Charting Greens is Legal Under the USGA and R&A Ruling

The USGA and R&A recently issued new rules for green charting effective 01.01.19. These updated regulations now allow the type of golf green charting recommended by the BreakMaster golf device, along with our Custom Greens Books (as seen here). This endorsement for our innovative method directly contributes to golf putts improvement and helps you lower your scores. Read more by clicking HERE.

The BreakMaster is at the R&A!

The home of the British Open, the R&A, recently purchased a quantity of the BreakMaster golf device for use in their tournaments. This marks the second time that BreakMaster has been recognized by the R&A as the premier green-reading tool in all of golf! This endorsement highlights our effective method of green charting and is a significant contribution to golf putts improvement, particularly in establishing fair pin positions for more competitive play. Chart Greens Like the Tour Pros Do!

Now you can chart greens just like the pros with Custom Greens Books from BreakMaster, the leading BreakMaster golf device. These pocket-sized greens books feature blank pages for each of the 18 greens on a golf course, making them the perfect resource to record your BreakMaster data and improve your golf putts. This practice is perfectly legal under the new ruling 4.3, and green charting is one reason why professional golfers achieve significantly better scores than the average player.

With a Greens Book customized for your specific golf course, you'll gain a distinct advantage over your fellow golfers in your foursome, as you'll know exactly how the ball will break BEFORE you make your putt.

Sinking a Breaking Putt Makes Your Whole Day!

Congratulations to BreakMaster customer Michelle Wie for her fantastic win at the HSBC Women's World Championship. Michelle's exceptional putting, notably that impressive 35-footer, highlights once again that while great players can drive the ball far, success truly hinges on what they accomplish on the green. With the right tools, like the BreakMaster golf device, golfers can enhance their golf putts improvement by mastering green charting techniques. Every day, both professional and amateur golfers make great putts thanks to careful reads on the green. Remember, making a putt can transform a good day into a great day, and the best players rely on skillful green charting rather than guesswork.

Golf is Now a Game of Precision Tech

These days, even amateur golfers rely on a GPS device to determine the exact distance to the green. They calculate how far each club will carry the ball and know precisely how much backswing to use with short irons to reach their target. However, once they get to the green, much of that precision can disappear. Why is that? Because many amateur golfers often guess the break of the slope in their putts.

For example, on a 6-foot putt, the difference between a 1.0-degree break and a 0.5-degree break can equate to as much as 6 inches—definitely enough to miss your shot. Think you can accurately perceive the difference between a 1.0-degree and a 0.5-degree slope? If you can, you might want to contact NASA!

With so much at stake on every putt, you owe it to yourself not to leave things to chance. Tour pros recognize that the best way to ensure accuracy in the break is through green charting with the BreakMaster golf device and by making notes in a Greens Book. This approach allows them to maintain the same level of precision on the greens as they do throughout the rest of their game, ultimately leading to significant golf putts improvement.

Why Chart Golf Greens?

"My caddie and I have charted the greens on every course we've played, which is essential for a tour player. Since we basically encounter the same courses every year, this knowledge is vital. I recommend similar due diligence for you on the courses you frequent. Take notes on hole locations, paying attention to breaks, the direction of grain, and consider using a BreakMaster golf device to aid in your green charting. Doing so will enhance your golf putts improvement, making you more comfortable on the greens and helping you sink more putts."

Degrees vs. Percent of Slope. Which is Best?

The BreakMaster golf device measures slope in degrees, which we believe is the most easily understood way to display the break. However, some in the world of golf, like our friends at Aimpoint, prefer to use percentage of slope instead of degrees. To assist with golf putts improvement, there is a simple conversion to turn degrees into percent: just multiply degrees by 1.7 to find the percent of slope. To make things even more convenient, the PDF below includes a green charting tool that shows typical degrees to percent conversions. You can print this PDF chart and cut it out to attach with cellophane tape to the side of the BreakMaster. Make sure to attach it on the side, not the bottom, where it might throw off the BreakMaster's reading. Download the PDF chart HERE.

Our Twentieth Year Anniversary

It was twenty years ago that we shipped our first BreakMaster golf device. Since then, we've assisted thousands of golfers in improving their golf putts through effective green charting, ultimately helping them lower their scores! Have you joined their ranks by using a BreakMaster? If not, explore this site to discover how you can lower your scores by understanding the breaks before you putt!
